Cooked Apples: Used in so Many Ways

Cooked apples for Fall!  They taste like apple pie, even without added sugar! They’re warming and nourishing, and a perfect addition to oatmeal, chia cereal, mixed into a smoothie or on their own.

Apples are abundant at Farmer’s Markets everywhere.

On retreat in Sonoma county, I stayed across from an apple orchard and picked Golden Delicious right from the tree!

  • Core and chop 2-4 apples.

  • On medium high heat add 1-2 teaspoons of ghee or coconut oil.

  • Add 1/2 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to the oil and stir for a moment.

  • Add the chopped apples continue to stir until coated.

  • Add 2 - 4 tablespoons of water, lower heat, cover and cook for 5-15 minutes stirring occasionally and adding more water if necessary. The longer the cook time the softer the apples.

Cooking apple varieties like Macintosh or Macoun are softer and will cook more quickly. You could also substitute pears.
